 Antonio CitterioAntonio Citterio was born in Meda in 1950. He graduated in architecture at the Politecnico of Milan.
From 1972 he worked in the field of industrial design as a designer and consultant. He works with many manufacturers such as Ansorg, Arclinea, B&B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Hackman, Inda, Kartell, Tre-P&Tre-Più, Valli & Valli, Vitra.
In 1999 he becomes art director for Brionvega.
He won the Golden Compass Award in 1987 and 1995.
The 'Mobil' system and the 'Battista' folding table for Kartell are exposed in the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art of New York.
In 1981 he also starts working on architecture and interiors, establishing a multi-disciplinary architecture and design studio with experience ranging from architecture to corporate design comprising total creative directing for a mixed range of international clients.
Between 1987 and 1996, Terry Dwan joined Antonio Citterio to work on many architectural projects all over Europe and Japan, developing interiors for stores and offices. The most significant projects are:
A commercial and administrative complex near Milan
The Esprit Headquarters in Milan, Amsterdam and Antwerp
The Polsterfabrik in Neuenburg (Germany) for Vitra
A factory in Milan for Antonio Fusco.
In 1996/97 Antonio Citterio and Partners participated in numerous competitions, all winning competition entries:
Corporate Design for the Commerzbank pilot branches in Germany
new retail environment for Habitat in Paris
The Interior Concept for smart Centres
Buildings and exhibition stands selling the new smart car
The restructuring of the existing Line 1 Metro system of Milan
The restructuring of the Line A metro system of Rome.
Meanwhile the following projects have come to a final stage: the renovation of an office building for Antonio Citterio and Partners in Milan, a building for the Headquarters of the Edel Records GmbH to be built in Hamburg, a clothing production factory in Legnano (near Milan).
Antonio Citterio has taught at Domus Academy of Milan from 1990 until 1992 and at La Sapienza University of Rome in 1997.
He has been the external examiner for the Furniture Design Course of Royal College of London from 1993 until 1995.
He was asked to give lectures and hold several conferences at the Politecnico University of Milan, the Triennale of Milan, the Montreal University, the Stockholm Royal Institute of Technology, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETH) and the Karlsruhe University.
From 1999 he teaches at the "Accademia di Architettura" of Mendrisio (Switzerland).
Antonio Citterio lives and works in Milan.
